April 19, 2003

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 19 Arizona State water polo team played its final game of the 2003 season Saturday evening at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center, but unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the season did not end with a victory as No. 20 Cal State Northridge handed the hosts an 8-2 loss. The loss dropped the team to 1-2 on the weekend an 20-18 for the year.

ASU opened the game with a 1-0 lead after Gili Kollan (So., Kiriat Bialik, Israel) scored 15 seconds into the game. The Matadors answered with a pair of scores of their own in the first to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter. Tessa Wyborny (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) opened the second period much as Kollan did by scoring to knot the game at two. That is when CSUN took control of the game.

With 1:21 remaining in the first half, Erica Bonetti scored to give the visitors a 3-2 halftime lead. She the scored again to open the third for a 4-2 cushion. Chari Christopher, who scored the first Matador goal, added the next three scores to end the third period leading 7-2. Jamie McGray added the final goal of the game in the fourth.

A full recap of the season, including updated records and statistics, will be available later this week on the official web-site of Sun Devil Athletics, www.TheSunDevils.com.
