Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. - Arizona State freshman pitcher Desiree Serrano had a no-hitter through four innings, but gave up a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the third-ranked Washington Huskies (33-5-1; 2-3 Pac-10) a come from behind 2-1 over 12th-ranked Arizona State (26-11; 3-2 Pac-10) Saturday in Seattle.

Arizona State got on the board first in the third inning on a two out rally. After the Devils hit into a double play, Valerie Sevilla's infield single to the pitcher ignited the rally. Jennifer Forner followed with double down the first base line as she moved Sevilla to third. Kristin Farber then hit a single into deep second base, but she beat out the throw to first as Sevilla scored.

Serrano (16-6) struggled all day with control problems as she walked a career-high 10 batters, but for most of the game she and the rest of the Devils defense managed to get out of the jams as the Huskies stranded nine runners.

In the sixth inning after retiring the first UW batter, Serrano issued another walk to Dena Tyson. That walk would prove costly as Sarah Hyatt then hit the game-winning two-run shot over the left field fence.

ASU had one more chance in the top of the seventh to go ahead. After Adriana Garcia singled to center, UW starting pitcher Ashley Boek (15-1) was lifted for Tia Bollinger. With two outs, Cheryl Evans stepped to the plate and drilled a towering shot off Bollinger that just curved foul over the leftfield pole. But Bollinger then came back to strikeout Evans for her fourth save of the year.

The Huskies had only two-hits on the day, while ASU collected five. This was the first time all season (23-1) that the Devils lost a game after out hitting their opponent. Kara Brun went 0-for-3, snapping a career-best and current Pac-10 leading 17-game hitting streak.

Up next, the Devils will finish the two-game set with a final single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
