Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Kara Brun and Phelan Wright each hit home runs to propel the 13th-ranked Arizona State softball team (25-9; 2-0 Pac-10) to a 7-1 Pac-10 win over 22nd-ranked Oregon State (22-15; 0-3 Pac-10) Saturday night at Farrington Stadium.

Oregon State scored their only run in the first inning off of a solo home run by Kelly Petersen. The Sun Devils then answered with a three-run blast in the bottom of the first. Kristin Farber hit an infield single and then moved to second when Brun got hit by a pitch. That set the stage for Wright's three-run shot over the right centerfield fence.

Brun then belted her team-leading 10th home run in the third, a solo shot over the left field fence. The home run also tied the all-time record in a single season also set by Brun last year. In the fifth inning, Carla Strege hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Farber, who had earlier reached on an error by the first baseman.

ASU ended the scoring with two more in the sixth. Farber posted an RBI off of another single and Garcia also singled to drive in the final run.

Ashley Werschky (6-3) started the game, going four innings with four hits and one run. Desiree Serrano finished the last three for her fifth save of the year as she limited the Beavers to two hits with three strikeouts. OSU's Monica Hoffman (16-10) took the loss, giving up 10 hits and seven runs, six earned with five strikeouts.

Up next, the two teams will end the series on Sunday at Farrington Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
