COLUMBUS, Ga. - After a 26 hour rain delay, the 14th-ranked Arizona State softball team (12-3) edged eighth-ranked DePaul (5-1), 1-0 in the first pool game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia.

Kara Brun opened the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to left field. Phelan Wright then hit into a fielder's choice to the third baseman, but DePaul's Katy Kukman throw to second to get Brun out was short hopped and went into right field moving Brun to third and Wright to second. The Blue Demons then intentionally walked Adriana Garcia to load the bases. The next ASU hitter, Cheryl Evans, then drilled a hard single down the thirdbase line that glanced off Kukman's glove into foul territory, allowing Brun to score easily for the game-winning run.

Desiree Serrano (8-2) had another solid start, going seven innings without a run with five strikeouts. DePaul's Lindsay Chouinard (3-1) suffered the loss.

Up next, the Devils will play again later today against Liberty in their second pool game at 7:00 p.m. Due to weather problems in Columbus, bracket play has been cancelled and the Devils will play their final game on Sunday against Ohio State at 11:00 a.m.
