TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State water polo team was hampered by a slow start and a five-goal deficit as it lost at the Princeton Invitational to host No. 15 Princeton, 11-4, in the Sun Devils' second game of the day. Four separate Sun Devil players scored in the loss as ASU dropped to 4-6 on the year.
After falling behind 5-0 following the first period, the Sun Devils were unable to climb back into the game. Katie Davis (Jr., Riverside, Calif.), Bryn Kuech (So., Bonsall, Calif.), Daya Mau (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) and Elaine Bentley (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) each found the back of the cage for the Sun Devils while Kuech, Gili Kollan (So., Kiriat Bialik, Israel) and Heather Remfer (Fr., Lodi, Calif.) assisted on the goals for ASU.
Lizzie Houck (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) recorded eight saves in the contest, but it was not enough as the defense allowed a season-high 11 goals. The previous high was 10, recorded twice this year, both last weekend at the UC San Diego tournament.
The Sun Devils will return to the pool for their third and fourth games of the Princeton Invitational Sunday. ASU will play Bucknell at 9:30 a..m. EST before concluding the event with No. 19 Harvard at 1:30 p.m. EST.
