Men's Results

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State track and field team returned to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the second time this year and returned to the Valley of the Sun with an improved provisional time from Seneca Holmes (Jr., Waddell, Ariz.) and two new partially qualifying times, one each from the men and No. 18 women. The meet, the Mountain T Invitational, was hosted by Northern Arizona University at the Skydome.

Holmes, as she has done so far this indoor season, has been near the top of the standings in the 60-meter hurdles while consistently improving her time. This week, she finished third at 8.31, bettering her mark of a week ago (8.36). Joni Smith (Sr., Long Beach, Calif.) turned in the fastest 400-meter dash of the year for the squad by running the race in 54.44 and taking fifth. Her time also stands as a provisional mark. On the men's side, the 4x400-meter relay again dominated the field and improved their top time in 2003 by nearly 4.5 seconds, dropping their 3:11.46 down to a provisional mark of 3:07.03.

Also faring well in the invitational for the men was Seth Amoo (So., Palmdale, Calif.). His 6.73 in the 60-meter dash was 0.01 off from adding his name to the provisional list. Travis Jones (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) threw the weight 56-feet, 8-inches to set the standard on the team this year while capturing first place and Ryan Zimmerman (So., Nipomo, Calif.), also the top placer in the triple jump, finished with a 47-11 on the day. Trevell Quinley (So., Tracy, Calif.), in the long jump, and Vince Mosca (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.), in the shot put, each finished as the runners-up in their respective events.

On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Kandace Tucker (Fr., Tempe, Ariz.), Cassandra Reed (So., Avondale, Ariz.), Holmes and Joni Smith combined to capture the only first-place finish for the team. Tiffany Greer (Sr., Powder Springs, Ga.) and Julia Pedersen (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) each finished second with Greer competing in the long jump and Pedersen in the shot put.

The Sun Devils head back to Flagstaff, Ariz., next week to compete in the Double Dual with Northern Arizona and rival Arizona, Feb. 14. Also on the slate for some of the team's members is a trip to the Washington Invitational (Feb. 15) or to Indianapolis, Ind., for the Canon Classic (Feb. 14-15.)
