AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 13 Arizona State Men's Swimming & Diving team has completed its first evening of competition against No. 5 Texas and Southern Methodist at the Jamail Texas Swim Center. The Sun Devils lead the Mustangs 94-73 and trail the Longhorns 118-47. Christian Harcsas earned first-place in the 200 back for ASU, and the 200 Free Relay also notched a first-place performance in the final event of day one.
Harcsas, in a 1:47.10 effort, beat his nearest competitor by over two seconds in the 200 back, while the 200 Free Relay of Nick Brunelli, Wiley Wallace, Bobby Zaabadich and Ace Tate finished first in 1:21.32.
Brunelli (44.73) took third in the 100 free, with Wallace (46.04) finishing sixth and Zaabadich (46.25) placing seventh. In the 200 breast, Leonardo Martins (2:04.10) placed third, with Joey Clements (2:05.06) in sixth and Josh Gemmell (2:06.26) in seventh.
David Kolozar brought in two top-six finishes for the Devils, placing fifth in the 100 fly (50.48) and sixth in the 500 free (4:34.84).
Joona Puhakka took second in the diving pool for ASU on the 3-meter springboard with a 372.85. Thomas McCrummen finished fourth (305.20) and Brant Bingham finished eleventh (236.35).
The finishing order places listed above for ASU are overall finishes between Texas, SMU and ASU. Arizona State's points are tabulated as two separate dual meets with Texas and SMU. Arizona is also at the meet but does not score against the Sun Devils. Competition tomorrow begins at noon CST.
