Arizona State Outfielder Rod Allen : "This (home run) was clutch,
it felt good...Coach has been trying to get me to work on some new stuff.
I've been coming out early and staying late, it felt pretty good. I was
trying to be aggressive and swing a little harder. Not swing nonchalant at
the ball, swing aggressive."
"We hit a lot of balls hard today. Unfortunately a lot of them were caught. As long as you keep staying on it. Our game plan is line drives and ground balls, and if you hit it in the air, you better hit it over. That's what coach says. We felt good, we felt we were the better team and we just had to stay on it."
Arizona State Catcher Cesar Castillo: "The scouting report said (Barrett) comes in late in the count and I got a fastball up in and in. I got a pretty good swing on it and helped out the team."
Arizona State Pitcher Ryan Schroyer: "Carlos Arguello came out and was his typical self and shut them down. Mark Sopko came out and was awesome also. They were making good pitches and letting the hitters get themselves out."
"I just come out and try and throw the ball over the plate and see what happens."
Arizona State Head Coach Pat Murphy: "I have great respect for San Diego's ballclub. Those kids play hard, they're well coached, they know what they want to do. Their pitcher was fantastic I thought. A great competitor, there's a reason he's been an All-American for two years. I think they're a scrappy club."
"I thought we had some good at bats early and came up empty. We had first and third with no outs, got one. Bases load no outs, got one. I think that's how it went. You'd like to do more but (Barrett's) a strike thrower and the credit is to him. He pitched himself out of jams. That kid can pitch in the Pac-10, that's for sure."
On the Bullpen
"That's kind of how it's been all year. I don't like to talk about
Schroyer, because it's kind of goofy what he's done this year. Arguello,
Sopko, both unsung heroes."
"I thought we kept composed. We didn't play great. To get 13 hits off of Barrett is impressive. I'm sure he didn't give up that all year. We had a decent approach. He kept our lefties at bay. You won't see Andre (Ethier) going 0-5 much. We stayed after it, so I'm proud of our bullpen."
San Diego Pitcher Ricky Barrett: "I think it was pretty evident early that I didn't have my fastball. The velocity was there, but it was really hard to place on the corners. I made mistakes and they hit the, so I have to tip my cap."
"I had to bear down. I had nothing going. I didn't feel very comfortable out there. That was just inside, it wasn't the surroundings, it wasn't the game, it wasn't anything. I kind of take it on myself."
San Diego Head Coach Rich Hill: "From our angle, it looked like (Barrett) had some good velocity. I thought he pitched to both sides of the plate pretty well. You have to give ASU a lot of credit. They hit mistakes as well as any team in the country. When they got an opportunity to hit a ball out over the plate, they hit it."
