Lauren Moon Finishes Her Career at NCAA Gymnastics Championships

April 18, 2002

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Arizona State's lone qualifier at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, senior Laura Moon wrapped up her ASU career in the all-around competition Thursday at Alabama's Coleman Coliseum with a four-event total of 38.950.

Making her competitive rotations with the University of Nebraska, Moon was strongest on the balance beam with a score of 9.800. She turned in 9.700s on the uneven bars and the vault and a 9.750 in the floor exercise but did not qualify for Saturday's finals in any of the events.

Moon completes her ASU career as the school record holder in the all-around (39.600) and the only Sun Devil woman to earn two perfect 10.0 scores on uneven bars. Transferring to ASU before her junior season after two MVP years at the University of Maryland, Moon was limited in her senior campaign due to knee surgery and other injuries sustained separately in a fall on bars during a Nov. 19 practice.

She had careers highs of 9.850 on vault, 10.0 on bars, 9.950 on beam and 9.800 on floor. Her career best on beam came in ASU's final regular-season home meet of 2002, sticking a 9.95 to help propel the Sun Devils to a school-record event total of 49.600.

Moon was one of only two seniors on ASU's 2002 squad.
