SALINAS, Calif. - The Arizona State women's golf finished eighth at the San Jose State University Spartan Invitational, a 54-hole tournament held Mon.-Wed., March 4-6 at the par 72, 5,938-yard Corral de Tierra Country Club.
Led by first-year head coach Mickey Yokoi, the seventh-ranked Sun Devils turned in their sixth top-10 finish of the year in as many events with a three-round total of 900. California won the tournament at 886, while Pepperdine and Washington each tied for second with a three-day total of 887 and Oklahoma State (892) and New Mexico State (893) rounded out the top five.
For the Sun Devils, sophomore Jimin Kang notched her fourth top-10 showing of the season as she carded a one-under 71 in the final round to finish in a tie for 10th with a three-day total of 221 (74-76-71). Junior Melanie Hunt tied for 21st with a three-round total of 224 (77-73-74), while junior Ga?lle Truet finished in a tie for 25th at 226 (73-79-74). Junior Blair O'Neal tied for 40th (81-77-74-232) and freshman Erin Tone finished in a tie for 56th (78-84-77=239).
Individually, South Carolina's Kristy McPherson won the tournament with a three-day total of five-under 211 (71-69-71).
Arizona State returns to action March 23-24 at the Mountain View Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
