STANFORD, Calif. - Three Arizona State distance runners clocked NCAA qualifying times, led by junior Fasil Bizuneh's automatic time and fifth-place effort in the men's 10,000m, at the prestigious Stanford Invitational held Friday, March 29, through Saturday, March 30, at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
In addition to Bizuneh, junior Brianna Torres and redshirt freshman Juan Reyes turned in provisional qualifying times placing sixth and 12th, respectively, in the women's and men's 5,000m races.
Bizuneh's personal best time of 28:46.88 in Friday night's top section of the 10,000m improved his previous school record of 28:58.61 set last season. Junior J.R. Cox placed 18th in section two of the men's 10,000m in 30:06.24, the fourth fastest time in Sun Devil history.
Torres smashed her previous personal best, finishing sixth in the top section of the 5,000m Friday night in 16:22.31, a time which moved her from 10th to fifth on ASU's all-time outdoor list.
Competing in the men's top section of the 5,000m Friday night, Reyes finished 12th in a personal best 13:57.52, sixth fastest in ASU outdoor history.
ASU's lone competitor on Saturday, senior Cheyne Jones finished 18th in the top section of the men's 1500m race in a personal best 3:47.15.
