BERKELEY, Calif. -- With 14 seconds left in regulation, midfielder Carly Fuller passed the ball to midfielder Brittany Kirk, who unleashed a 22-yard blast into the upper 90 of the goal to give California (11-7-1; 4-5 Pac-10) a 2-1 victory over 25th-ranked Arizona State (11-6-2; 4-5 Pac-10).

Freshman forward Tracy Hamm put Cal up 1-0 in the 25th minute off a broken play, which started with a Fuller corner kick from the right side. Hamm shot the ball from about 20 yards, and ASU goalkeeper Kelly Fitzgerald got a hand on the ball but couldn't prevent it from crossing the goal line.

Both teams had their chances in the first half with Cal holding a 10-6 edge on shots and taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room. The Sun Devils nearly tied the game before the halftime whistle, but Manya Makoski's chip shot in the 45th minute went just to the left of the goal.

The momentum shifted in ASU's favor about midway through the second half, but Cal was able to hold the Sun Devil's scoreless until the 87th minute. After ASU's Amy LePeilbet and Kelley Bond had shots blocked by Cal defenders, Stephanie Peel knocked in the equalizer from about 10 yards out.

Cal finished the game with an 18-13 advantage on shots. Fitzgerald posted six saves for ASU, while Cal's Sani Post made four.

Up next, Arizona State will wait and see what happens when the 64-team NCAA field will be announced Monday, Nov. 11, at 2:30 p.m. PT on ESPNEWS.
