TUCSON, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Freshman outside hitter Kim Glass had a match-high 16 kills as the 16th-ranked Arizona Wildcats made easy work of the No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils in a convincing three-game sweep in Pac-10 volleyball action Friday night in front of 1, 982 at McKale Center. Game scores were 30-18, 30-16, 30-22 in favor of the Wildcats.
Arizona rebounded from a three-game sweep by the Sun Devils earlier in the year (Sept. 27) to improve to 11-7 overall and is now tied with ASU at 6-4 in league play. ASU saw its three-match winning streak come to an end and had its chance at sweeping Arizona for the first time since 1995 spoiled. The Sun Devils are now 10-5 overall and 6-4 with eight Pac-10 matches remaining in 2002. ASU head coach Patti Snyder-Park, who is coaching in her 14th and final season this year, ended her career with a 15-13 record against the Wildcats.
Glass, a freshman from Lancaster, Pa., registered 16 kills on a torrid .542 hitting percentage to lead three Wildcats with double-digits in kills. Freshman middle blocker Bre Ladd had 10 kills on a .571 attack percentage and senior outside hitter Lisa Rutledge also had 10 kills (.529). The Wildcats torched the Devils with a team season-high team .402 hitting percentage.
Arizona State was led by junior outside hitter Juliana Escobar (Brasilia, Brazil), who tallied 13 kills on a .308 hitting percentage. No other Sun Devil registered double-digits in kills as ASU managed to record only 30 total kills in the three-game loss. Junior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek) led ASU with 17 assists and junior Jodi Smith (St. Johns) had a team-high four block assists.
The Sun Devils will return to action at home next weekend with a pair of matches against Washington State (Nov. 1) and Washington (Nov. 2) at Wells Fargo Arena. Both matches start at 7 p.m. with Saturday's match with the Huskies to be televised locally on Cox cable 13 on AZ-TV. --Sun Devil Volleyball--
