TEMPE, Ariz. The Arizona State soccer team (4-1-2) notched their third straight shutout Sunday as they blanked UNLV (6-2-1), 3-0, at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. With temperatures reaching towards 105 degrees, Arizona State tallied two early first half goals and one early second half goal, limiting UNLV to seven shots to secure the victory.

Arizona State posted their first goal in the 11th minute when freshman Elizabeth Bogus found fellow freshman Brittany Cooper cutting towards the box with a cross from 10 yards out. Cooper one-timed the cross from close in range pass the UNLV goalkeeper. Just two minutes later in the 13th minute, Cooper found herself assisting junior Haley van Blommestein on her first goal of the season. Cooper made a touch pass to van Blommestein who drilled the ball from 10-yards out into the lower right ninety.

The Sun Devils out shot UNLV 8-2 in the first half. In the second half, less than a minute in, ASU recorded its third goal of the match from a trio of freshmen. The Sun Devils had a rush going when Cooper touched the ball over to Manya Makoski, who then laced the ball between two UNLV defenders to a breaking Kelley Bond for another one-timer into the lower right corner. It was Bond's first goal as a Sun Devil, while Cooper tallied her second assist and fourth point of the match.

With the heat rising, both team's made liberal substitutions in the second half. UNLV also attempted more shots on goal, but were unable to tally a score.

ASU sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Fitzgerald posted six saves for her third shutout, while UNLV's Jenna Huff also tallied six saves. Freshman goalkeeper Hilary Wilson made her first appearance of the season for the Sun Devils with about seven minutes left in the match. ASU out shot UNLV 23-7 and posted 11 corners to UNLV's one.

Up next, Arizona State will travel to Athens, Georgia to face the Bulldogs of the University of Georgia on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (Pacific) and Auburn on Sunday at 8:30 a.m., also in Athens.
