TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Behind a solid .312 team hitting percentage and a 12-kill, 10-dig effort from junior All-American April Ross, the No. 1 USC Women of Troy defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 3-0 Friday evening in Pac-10 Volleyball action at Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 30-20, 30-22, 30-27.
The Trojans improved to 7-0 overall and have now won 13 straight matches against the Sun Devils dating back to 1995. ASU had its four-match win streak snapped, falling to 4-2 on the season.
Ross, a second-team AVCA All-American a year ago, hit .375 (12-3-24) to go along with her double-double. Outside hitter Keao Burdine led all players with 13 kills and added three blocks. Setter Toni Anderson paced the USC offense with 29 assists.
Arizona State junior middle blocker Jodi Smith (St. Johns) led the Devils with 12 kills while almost matching a career high with a .647 hitting percentage. Junior libero Courtney Blocher (Scottsdale) anchored the Sun Devil defense with a match-high 13 digs. Junior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek) dished out 26 assist to lead the team.
Arizona State will return to action Saturday night vs. 11th-ranked UCLA at 7 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena. Admission will be free to all fans for the match. --Sun Devil Volleyball--
