TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Chad Prewitt had 21 points and Curtis Millage 16 as Arizona State beat Stephen F. Austin 92-61 Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Awvee Storey scored 12 points and Shawn Redhage and Tommy Smith had 11 each for the Sun Devils.
Ben Hunt had 14 points and Percy Green 11 for Stephen F. Austin.
Arizona State had a 46-33 halftime lead and never let the Lumberjacks get closer than 50-40 in the second half.
Sun Devils reserves Jonathan Howard and James Braxton teamed up to start a 17-1 run that put the game out of the reach.
Howard threaded a pass to Braxton for an underneath layup that made it 58-45 with 12:50 left in the game.
Twenty-two seconds later, Braxton assisted on a layup by Howard, who was fouled and completed the three-point play.
In the next 3:36, Shawn Redhage scored five points and Prewitt three, capping the surge with a layup. At the same time, the Lumberjacks were going 8:40 without a field goal as the game slipped away.
Prewitt, who scored 37 points in Arizona State's final exhibition game, had 14 at halftime. He made a 3-pointer early on and scored six points during a 17-4 surge that carried the Sun Devils to a 35-16 lead with 6:07 left in the half.
Millage scored seven straight points during that run.
