LOS ANGELES -- Sophomore outside hitter Kim Mehlhorn registered a career-high 15 kills to help lead the Arizona State Sun Devil volleyball team to a convincing 3-1 win over the University of New Mexico Lobos Friday night at Gersten Pavilion in the annual Loyola Marymount Volleyball Classic. The Devils improved to 2-3 on the year with the 30-26, 30-26, 27-30, 30-21 victory and are now 15-0 all-time vs. the University of New Mexico.

Mehlhorn (Tempe, Ariz.) has played a number of positions in her short ASU career, but with the injury to sophomore outside hitter Natalie Harris, Mehlhorn has stepped in nicely and set career highs twice already this season in kills. In addition to her 15 kills, Mehlhorn hit .323 (also a career high for matches over 10 kills) and six digs.

Also tabbing double-digits in kills were senior outside hitter Jami Coughlin (Glendale) and sophomore middle blocker Mandy Stephens (Napa, Calif.). Sophomore setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led the Devils with 41 assists and sophomore Courtney Blocher added three service aces to her career high six kills. The win moves head coach Patti Snyder-Park to within seven of the 200-win milestone (193-156).

The Lobos (2-2) were led by Anna Reines (14 kills) and Malena Thompson (13 kills, 14 digs).

The Devils will continue action in the LMU Volleyball classic with a pair of matches Saturday. ASU will play Indiana in the morning (10 a.m.) and then come back and play preseason nationally ranked Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m. The Devils open Pac-10 play Sept. 14 at California.
