SEATTLE (AP) - Will Perkins and C.J. Massingale scored 13 points apiece to lead Washington to a 70-68 overtime victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils Thursday night.
The Huskies snapped a four-game losing streak, scoring nine of their 12 points during overtime at the free throw line.
Arizona State (8-6, 0-3 Pac-10) missed two shots in the final five seconds of the game. Kyle Dodd's 3-point attempt was short and Donnell Knight's putback did not hit the rim as the clock expired for the Sun Devils.
Massingale's free throw with 11.9 seconds left in the game pushed the Husky lead to two points, which proved to be enough for the Huskies' first conference victory of the season.
Washington (7-8, 1-2) was outrebounded 55-31, but made 11 of 24 from 3-point range. Grant Leep scored all nine of his points on 3-of-3 shooting from behind the 3-point line. The plus-24 rebound differential was the fourth-best by any Rob Evans' team in his 243 games as a head coach.
Awvee Storey pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds and gave the Sun Devils a 66-64 lead with 2:09 to play in the extra period. It was their last lead of the game. Knight led Arizona State with 15 points and had a career-high 13 rebounds. Alton Mason, who averaged 27.5 points over the previous two games, scored 12.
Knight tied the game at 58 when he put back his own miss in the paint with 7.7 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
Arizona State was without starting center Chad Prewitt, sidelined with a sprained right ankle. Prewitt had started the previous 45 games for ASU and was averaging 10.6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.
The Sun Devils went 3-1 in road overtime games last year, which was one short of the NCAA record for road overtime wins.
The Huskies jumped out to a 13-6 lead when Perkins scored on a fast break layup six minutes into the game. Arizona State responded with a 16-4 run over the next 6:30.
Arizona State held a 32-27 advantage at halftime.
Washington hit 11 three-pointers, the most ASU has given up since USC had 15 on March 7, 1998, a span of 77 games.
Notes: Arizona State lost its ninth straight Pac-10 road opener. The Sun Devils are 6-17 in 23 seasons of Pac-10 play in their Pac-10 road opener and have not won a road opener since 1992...ASU is 0-3 in Pac-10 play for the first time since 1995-96, when it started the season 0-5 in league play.
