Post-Match Quotes

Head Coach Patti Snyder-Park:

"I thought Duke played strong tonight. I thought they played good defense. We had to battle. This was not our "A" game, but we did persevere. We played ourselves into the match, even with our serving struggles. I'm proud of our team. This is big to come through in the first round. They served us tough and had a good game plan. It's just great to get pat the first round and have a chance to play a great team like Minnesota...it was a battle."

"Offensively, Jami (Coughlin) was on fire tonight and really played well on defense and offense. Setter Cheryl (Anglin) got her the ball and did a great job running the offense. Amanda (Burbridge) struggled offensively tonight early, but she did other things well and was strong down the stretch. She was all over the floor defensively. Others were also producing, and Amanda got herself back into it. All six were playing well. I can't say enough about the match that Jami played. She was amazing."

"I'm very proud of our freshmen. Cheryl (Anglin) was very smart with the offense. Natalie Harris was swinging hard and Courtney Blocher was also playing hard. We struggled in the DS position, but we brought in Kim Mehlhorn, and she served tough. Michelle Mortensen did a good job in the middle. It was a team effort. The veterans and the youth blended."

Outside Hitter Amanda Burbridge (17 kills, 19 digs, 7 blocks):

"I wasn't really that frustrated out there tonight, because I know that I am going to go through stretches where I am going to struggle. Like any sport, you go through stretches where things don't go your way. I have the mentality that just keep doing the same things and eventually things will work themselves out, and that is what happened tonight. I got back in a groove in the third game. It was just two games where I was just a little bit off and in this case we still got a win so I can start to focus on tomorrow night when we play a very good Minnesota team."

Outside Hitter Jami Coughlin (21 kills, 26 digs):

"We came out in the first game and really played strong and did what we needed to do, but then we fell apart in the second game and things just were not working. It was real sloppy out there, but we stayed in there and talked each other back into the match and came away with a big win. It was an ugly win, but we got it and now we get to play one more match."

"I wasn't even aware that I was close to 1,000 kills in my career, but it is a real nice honor and makes this win a lot more meaningful."
