TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Chad Prewitt had a career-high 20 points as Arizona State routed Brigham Young 80-52 Saturday night.
The Sun Devils (5-1), off to their best start in six years, had a 75-31 lead with 8:04 left in the game before both coaches began substituting.
It was the fifth straight for Arizona State, which avenged a 78-67 loss last season in Provo, Utah, in which Mekeli Wesley scored 26 points. This time, Wesley was scoreless in the first half and finished with 11 points on 3-for-15 shooting.
The Cougars (2-2), who lost for the second time in three days, shot 25.4 percent (15-of-59) for the game.
Terrell Lyday also had 11 points.
Arizona State's Awvee Storey had 14 points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes, while Shawn Redhage and Tommy Smith had 11 points each.
Smith scored his points in the second half, when the Sun Devils broke away from a 37-22 halftime lead with a 16-3 run in the first 3:40.
Arizona State used a 13-2 run to build a 15-5 lead in the first 6:24 of the game.
But Lyday had a three-point play and a 3-pointer early in a 13-0 surge that put the Cougars ahead 18-15 with 7:02 left in the half.
Then the Sun Devils, sparked by the return to the game of Prewitt, who had 11 points and five rebounds in the first half, outscored BYU 22-4 the rest of the way. Storey, scoreless until his three-point play with 3:14 to go, had eight of Arizona State's last 10 points in the surge.
