  • Arizona State Quotes

    ASU Head Coach Bruce Snyder

"(This was) obviously a real disappointing loss for us. There was really a lot of desire by the team to play well, and this means a great deal to them. They're hurt by the lack of success. The last three weeks particularly has caught up with us and the movement and instability of the quarterback position. I really believe that they want to play well, they want to play hard, they want to win."

"We've had nine straight weeks of football without a bye. That's a lot of football. And you put in two double-overtimes and a single overtime. Our team looked heavy-legged. The spirit of a team that's fresh just wasn't there."

"Our goal now is to return home, take a couple of days off, and have a real good game plan set for U of A. The U of A game is a year-round contest. Like any traditional rival game, it's big the whole time, no matter what your record is."

    ASU receiver Todd Heap

"We just never really started going. We came out and nothing was really clicking for us. Their defense played tough all day long. They played better than us. We've had a lot of quarterback changes this year. I don't know if it hurt the continuity, but we've had to deal with that all year."

"We just came out flat and never got going. We did have a good week of practice, but that doesn't always transfer to the game. You carry it over from practice to the game and make it work, but we didn't do that."

"They seemed like they stuck with their game plan. They just played a good game, they played tough."

    Stanford Quotes

    Head Coach Tyrone Willingham

(On difference in today's defense) I think the elimination of the big play. I think we applied pressure and were able to stay away from the big play.

(When asked if this was Stanford's most complete game) Without looking at the numbers, I'm reluctant to say. But I think we added more elements to our game. Our special teams gave us outstanding play with the punt return, our defense was solid and our offense had some good drives and big plays. It probably was close to a complete game.

It feels great (to have a blowout). Those close ones wear on you a bit It was nice to have a bigger win, because you get a chance to involve the whole team.

(On The Big Game) The Big Game is really a season of itself. No matter how you go into it, you're excited. There's too much history and tradition, and the people in our program understand that, and it's an exciting time.

(On QB's)We were planning to put Chris in at the time, but Randy's condition did not allow him to come back later in the ballgame. It was more Randy's foot.

(On winning on Senior Day) It felt fantastic. This was a group that were some of the first young men I spoke to about coming to Stanford. They were the core of our football team last year that got us to the Rose Bowl and the core that has given us great leadership this year.

    Willie Howard

It's kind of sad to play the last game at Stanford Stadium. I'm happy we were able to get out with a win. Everybody came together today as a team. We won it for each other.

    Luke Powell

(on his TD punt return) I was trying to make one guy miss, then the wall was set up perfectly. Once I got to the wall, it was set up perfectly.

    Kerry Carter

I think the fact that I broke some tackles today helped. I also saw everything better. It really started in the second half when I broke a couple tackles and made some big runs.

That's the first time I've thrown a touchdown pass in college. I threw a couple in high school, but this is my first one in college. It wasn't pretty, but it got there.
