CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Alton Mason scored 18 points, including nine in the final 1:38, to lead Arizona State to a 76-68 victory over Winthrop in the consolation game of the NABC Classic on Saturday night.

Shawn Redhage added 17 points, Awvee Storey 15 and Donnell Knight 13 for Arizona State (1-1), which lost to Tulsa 69-67 on Friday night.

Mason shot 9-of-10 from the foul line down the stretch to fend off Winthrop's rally and tie his career high for points. Redhage scored seven points and hit his last five free throws during the final 3:05.

Arizona State made 29 free throws - one more than Winthrop attempted - in a game during which four players fouled out and Winthrop coach Gregg Marshall was ejected after two technicals in the last 12 seconds.

Greg Lewis led Winthrop (0-2) with 14 points, while Roger Toxey and Tywan Harris each added 11.

Winthrop, which lost to North Carolina 66-61 on Friday night, was down 34-26 at halftime and trailed by at least 10 points three times in the second half.

The Eagles closed to 61-57 after a layup and free throw by Marcus Stewart. But the Sun Devils, who outrebounded the Eagles 35-22, then scored the next eight points.

Winthrop rallied again on a 3-pointer by Toxey and two baskets in 3.4 seconds by Anthony Moore and Tyrone Walker to cut the Sun Devils' lead to 68-64 with 12 seconds left.

But Mason made 3-of-4 free throws, and Redhage was 4-of-4 from the line in the last 11.5 seconds to seal the victory.
