TEMPE, Ariz. -- UCLA's Kristee Porter recorded a match high 36 kills to lead the No. 10 UCLA Bruins to a 3-2 nail-biting win over the host Arizona State Sun Devils in Pac-10 action Friday evening at Wells Fargo Arena.
Porter logged her second consecutive 30-kill, 20-dig night and is a front-runner for the Pac-10 Player of the Week award. UCLA improved to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in conference action. She also added three total blocks, 21 digs and two assists.
ASU (12-7, 4-5) dropped their third straight match. The Sun Devils were led by senior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge (Scottsdale) who tallied 23 kills and 23 digs. She now has five 20 kill, 20 dig matches on the year and is closing in on fourth place on the ASU record list for career kills. Burbridge also had five solo blocks and seven total for the evening. Her five solo blocks are a season high.
Junior Jami Coughlin had an outstanding performance for ASU, logging her first 20-kill, 20-dig match of the year. The Glendale native had 20 kills and 24 digs. Freshman Kim Mehlhorn (Tempe) added 10 kills for ASU. The Sun Devils out-hit the Bruins .203 to .186, but were out-blocked 15.5 to 11.5.
The Sun Devils will return to action next weekend by hosting Washington and Washington State at Wells Fargo Arena Friday and Saturday.
