ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- The Arizona State University volleyball team captured its second tournament championship of the year by finishing the Clubhouse Inn Invitational 3-0. ASU claimed the championship by beating UC Riverside 3-0 in the tournament finale Saturday night at Johnson Center in Albuquerque, NM.
ASU has now won seven of their last eight matches and are 8-3 on the year. UC Riverside fell to 2-8 with the loss. The Sun Devils notched wins in the tournament against host New Mexico, Oral Roberts and Riverside.
Junior outside hitter Jami Coughlin (Glendale) earned tournament MVP honors by recording 41 kills for a 4.56 per game average. Coughlin also had 41 digs and two service aces in the tournament. The junior finished the weekend against Riverside with a team-leading 13 kills.
Sophomore Julia Leddy (Mesa) had 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Natalie Harris (Tempe) had her first career double-digit game in kills with 10. ASU started three true freshmen in the match (Cheryl Anglin, Kim Mehlhorn and Harris).
The Sun Devils return to action next weekend with a pair of Pac-10 matches at Washington in Seattle and Washington State in Pullman, Wash.
