Volleyball Blows Past Oral Roberts In Three Games

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- The Arizona State University volleyball team played without All-America candidate Amanda Burbridge, but junior Jami Coughlin picked up the slack with 18 kills to lead the Sun Devils to a 15-13, 15-11, 15-11 victory over Oral Roberts in the second day of the Clubhouse Inn Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico.

With the victory, ASU improves to 7-3 on the year and have now won six of its last seven matches. With a win this evening against UC Riverside, the Sun Devils will win their second straight tournament championship. ASU was 4-0 last weekend at the B&G Properties Classic hosted by Southwest Texas in San Marcos, Texas.

Coughlin (Glendale) had a solid match, leading ASU with 18 kills while hitting .500 (18-2-32). Senior middle blocker Michelle Mortensen (Chandler) had 14 kills and sophomore Julia Leddy (Mesa) added nine kills to the final ASU tally. ASU outhit Oral Roberts.289 to .207.

Patricia Menezes led Oral Roberts with 20 kills, while Kristin Meyerson and Patricia Domingues added 15 and 14 respectively.

The Sun Devils will conclude tournament action this evening with a 5 p.m. MST game against UC Riverside. ASU will return to Pac-10 action next weekend with matches at Washington and Washington State.
