SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Sophomore middle blocker Julia Leddy hit for a .714% with a team-leading 11 kills and senior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge had six service aces as the Arizona State University volleyball team made easy task of the IUPUI Jaguars in three games to improve to 3-0 in the B&G Properties Classic hosted by Southwest Texas.
After starting the 2000 season 1-2, the Sun Devils have been hot as of late winning four of their last five matches and now stand at 4-2 for the season. The three-game sweep of IUPUI (15-10, 15-3, 15-4) was the second time in the last three matches that ASU has swept their opponent.
Leddy (Mesa) has been solid all season, leading the team in attacking proficiency. Saturday was no exception as the 6-2 middle blocker put down 11 kills in 14 attacks while committing only one error. Leddy also added three blocks to the Sun Devil win.
Burbridge (Scottsdale) had a season low of 10 kills, but picked it up on the service line with a career high six aces. The six service aces ranks sixth in single-match school history, last being matched by current assistant coach Christine Garner in 1995.
Also notable was the play of redshirt freshman Jodi Smith (St. Johns) who was making her collegiate volleyball debut. Smith, who doubles as a high jumper on the ASU track & field team, recorded one kill and two blocks in her ASU debut.
The Sun Devils will conclude tournament play at the B&G Properties Classic by taking on host Southwest Texas in a 3 p.m. (CST) match at Strahan Coliseum.
