TEMPE, Ariz. - Top-ranked Washington (53-6, 13-3 Pac-10) handed fifth-ranked Arizona State (39-15, 7-10 Pac-10) a 6-0 loss tonight in front of 612 fans at Farrington Stadium.

For the second game in a row the Sun Devils could only manage two singles, one each by Missy Hixon and Nichole Thompson.

ASU had a chance to strike first in the first inning. With one out, Thomson hit an infield single to third. Kara Brun then reached on a fielder's choice, advancing Thompson to second after UW failed to get Thompson at second.

ASU head coach Linda Wells then put on a double steal, advancing Thompson to third and Brun to second. Erica Beach then hit a ground ball to second base, but Thompson was thrown out at the plate trying to score. With Brun at third, Andrea Rodgers struckout ending the threat for the Sun Devils.

Arizona State would look to strike again after loading the base in the second inning, but were unable to capitalize.

In the fourth inning, Washington would tag four runs on ASU starter Erica Beach (12-8), three coming the way of a Jamie Clark home run to center field. UW starting pitcher Jennifer Spediacci (29-3) then tripled to right field, pass a diving Jennifer Forner, knocking in Kim DePaul for the fourth run.

Clark, in the fifth, would then hit another home run to right field to up UW's score to five. A Jenny Topping line drive, solo homer to center field in the seventh would end the scoring.

Beach allowed 10 hits, six runs, while striking out five. ASU stranded five runners, while Washington left seven on base.

Arizona State and Washington will conclude the two game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Farrington Stadium. It will mark the last regular season home game for seniors Jamie Hlebechuk, Andrea Rodgers and Lesley Murphy.
