TEMPE, Ariz. - The fifth-ranked Arizona State softball team (34-6, 2-1 Pac-10) defeated 23rd-ranked Oregon (24-13, 1-2 Pac-10), 7-3, this afternoon to tally their second Pac-10 win this weekend at Farrington Stadium.
Arizona State pitcher Kirsten Voak (23-2) finished all seven innings of the game, tying her career-high strike out record with fifteen, while racking up her 15th double-digit strike out game of the season. Her strike out total for the season now comes to 204. Voak also hit well on the afternoon going 1-for-2, scoring twice.
Three hits in the first inning started the Devils off strong, and led to two runs for the inning. Arizona State continued to hit well, tallying 11 hits for the game and having nine different Devil batters contributing hits to the total. Right fielder Jennifer Forner went 2-for-2 on the day with two RBI's.
Also hitting well for the Devils was shortstop Kara Brun going 2-for-4 with one RBI, first baseman Lesley Murphy and catcher Sara Kahler both went 1-for-2 with Kahler tallying one RBI. Other RBI contributors were Stacy Farnworth, Erica Beach and Andrea Rodgers.
Two Oregon Ducks hit homeruns this afternoon. The first was hit by Christi Shelton, who soloed over the left field wall, and the second was by Jill Robinson who tallied two RBI's. Oregon pitcher Andrea Vidlund (12-4) started the game, but after giving up five hits and five runs was replaced by Danielle Haag in the third inning. Haag then gave up six hits and two runs.
The Devils are in action again next Tuesday in a single game against second-ranked Arizona in Tucson at 6 pm.
