TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Aubrey McFadyen (Redmond, Wash.) scored a career-best 16 points as the Arizona State women's basketball team defeated Oregon State 75-58 Saturday night for "Senior Night" at Wells Fargo Arena. For ASU, the victory snapped a four-game losing streak and improved the team to 14-12 overall and 7-9 in the Pac-10. Oregon State fell to 14-15 overall and 10-7 in the conference.
Arizona State jumped out to a 25-5 lead through the first 11 minutes of the first half and never looked back. The Sun Devils led by as many as 22 points in the first half, holding the Beavers to just 17 points on five field goals and 25 percent shooting (5-20) in the first half, all season lows for Arizona State. Oregon State would never lead in the ball game.
The Sun Devils hit four three-pointers in the first half, including three treys from McFadyen, to take a 37-17 advantage into the lockerroom. McFadyen scored 11 of her career-best 16 points in the first half, while sophomore Theresa Jantzen (Medicine Hat, Alberta) had 10 points before the intermission.
The Sun Devils continued their strong play in the second half, holding off an Oregon State run which saw the Beavers reduce ASU's lead to 55-46 with 7:25 minutes to play. Senior Kitch Kitchen (Newark, N.J.) hit a three-pointer and McFadyen drained a pair of free throws and her fourth three-pointer of the game to put the Sun Devils ahead 63-46 with 5:56 to play, while the Sun Devils hit 15-of-19 free throws in the second half en route to their 75-58 victory.
For Arizona State, McFadyen and Jantzen each finished with 16 points, while Kitchen chipped in with 10. Three Sun Devils shared the top rebounding honors with five boards.
Oregon State senior Sissel Pierce led the game with 18 points, while sophomore Felicia Ragland had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Beavers, which also outrebounded the Devils 40-30.
The Sun Devils return to action next weekend as the team travels to California on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. and Stanford at 2 p.m. FOX Sports Net will televise the Stanford game to a national audience, while both games can be heard on the Sun Devil Sports Network on KTKP 1280 AM.
