No. 1 Stanford Edges Out No. 10 ASU, 6-1

TEMPE, Ariz. - After nearly three exciting hours of action, the 10th-ranked Arizona State women's tennis team (7-2, 2-2 Pac-10) was defeated by the number one-ranked Stanford Cardinal (3-1, 1-1 Pac-10), 6-1 today at the Robson Player Facility.

In singles competition, Stanford won five of the six matches with only one of the matches extending into the third set. In doubles action Stanford claimed one win for a 8-1 final. The remaining doubles matches were not completed

On the singles sixth court ASU freshman Megan Yeats dispatched Stanford's Jennifer Heiser 6-2, 6-3, increasing her overall record to 16-6. Stanford won on courts one, two, three, four and five.

In doubles play, with only one match played, the Cardinal tandem of Marissa Irvin and Teryn Ashley secured an 8-1 win over the Sun Devils duo of Faye Devera and Celena McCoury.

ASU continues its homestand vs. second-ranked California, tomorrow, March 4, at the Robson Player Facility. The dual match will begin at noon.
