Tempe, Ariz.- The fifth ranked Arizona State softball team (30-5) shutout the University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels (13-15), 1-0, this evening in the first game of a three-game series to be played this weekend at Farrington Stadium.
Arizona State pitchers Kirsten Voak (20-2) and Erica Beach combined efforts to keep the Rebels scoreless to boast the Devils to their 17th shutout of the season. Both pitchers allowed no walks and contributed four and three strikeouts respectively. Beach picked up her first career save coming in in the fourth inning with a score 1-0.
Devil's shortstop Kara Brun lead the team at the plate going 2-for-2 on the night and scoring the lone run. Also hitting well for Arizona State was right fielder Jamie Hlebechuk and third baseman Stacy Farnworth both going 1-for-2, with the only RBI of the game knocked in by Farnworth. The fourth hit for the Devils came from pinch hitter Andrea Rodgers going 1-for-1.
UNLV's pitcher Nicole Truax (7-7) struckout six batters on the night and walked only two batters. Shortstop Racheal Goodpaster lead the Rebels going 2-for-3 on the night along with catcher Debbie Hatch who went 1-for-2.
The Devils are in action again tomorrow night at Farrington Stadium against UNLV at 6 pm.
