TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State men's and women's track teams placed third at the ASU/USTCA Invitational, while winning six events this afternoon at Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe.
With five of eight victories in the field events, Indiana took top honors in both team competitions. The women's squad earned 174 points, USC placed second with 166, ASU with 162 and Tennessee with 114. On the men's side, Indiana posted 180 points, USC recorded 168, ASU 150 and Wisconsin 135. Only a women's squad competed for Tennessee while Wisconsin only traveled with a men's team.
Candida Coulson won the 400m hurdles for the Sun Devils in 1:01.85. She was also a part of the ASU 4x400m relay that won in 3:41.89. During that event, Coulson was on the track with her twin sister, Samantha, who was running for Tennessee.
Other winners include Brandon Strong in the men's 1,500m (3:49.10), Jeremy Rasmussen in the men's 3,000m steeplechase (9:17.92), Justin Owen in the men's javelin throw (190-8) and the men's 4x100m relay. That foursome's time of 39.33 provisionally qualifies for the NCAA Championship, to be held May 31-June 3 in Durham, N.C.
