FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University used a 16-0 second half run en route to a 66-54 win over visiting Arizona State University in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament Thursday night before 2,388 fans in Moby Arena.
Colorado State, 21-9, will play host to either Santa Clara our Southern California in a second round game Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Moby Arena.
Arizona State led, 478-46 with 8:15 to play on Brett Leonard's two free throws. From that point, the Rams would score the game's next 16 points, taking a 62-57 lead with 3:42 to play. Lisa Narkiewicz scored four points and Jacque Johnson hit a three pointer to score the first seven points in the run and erase ASU's final lead of the night.
Arizona State had taken a 45-42 lead with 10:45 to play. ASU wouldn't score a field goal for the next eight minutes, managing just four free throws over that span while the Rams put 20 points on the board.
Narkiewicz and teammate Angie Gorton tied for game honors with 14 points apiece. Guard Sarah Allen led ASU, which finished the year 14-15, with 11 points.
ASU threatened to take control of the game, jumping to a 10-point, 20-10 lead with 11 minutes to play in the half. Colorado State outscored the Sun Devils, 17-6, the rest of the half to take a 27-26 lead at the break.
