The Oklahoma Sooners scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning to squeak by Arizona State 5-4 tonight at Packard Stadium. The Sooners improve to 12-7 while the Devils fall to 20-5 on the year.
ASU jumped on the board first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, but the Sooners came right back, scoring three in the top of the second. They would tally a run in the third to take the lead.
Oklhoma starter Austin Mix (4-1) went 7.1 innings allowing only four hits. Mix gave up four runs on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Picking up his fifth save of the season was Jeff Bajenaru who pitched 1.2 shutout innings with two strikeouts.
Taking the loss for the Devils was starter Will Waldrip (5-1) who went 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Junior Jeff Phelps went 2-for-4 with four RBI for the Devils. Casey Myers and Brooks Conrad each contributed a hit to the Sun Devil cause. Mitch Jones scored two runs on the night.
Oklahoma leftfielder Sean Murphy went 1-for-5 with three RBI while four other Sooners each had two hits.
