ASU Downs Bruins, 6-3

March 10, 2000

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Seventh-ranked Arizona State women's tennis defeated No. 9 UCLA 6-3 at the Los Angles Tennis Center this afternoon in continuing Pac-10 action. The win improves the Sun Devils' overall record to 10-2 and their conference mark to 3-1. The Bruins drop to 8-4 overall, 1-4 in Pac-10 play.

Up 4-2 after singles play, ASU's tandem of Karin Palme and Kerry Giardino won the clinching match at No. 3 doubles, defeating UCLA's Petya Marinova/Cristina Popescu 8-6.

Both teams were playing without their No. 1 players as 18th-ranked Sara Walker was our for the Bruins, and the Sun Devils' 13th-ranked Allison Bradshaw is sidelined with an injury.

ASU defeated UCLA 6-3 earlier in the season in Tempe, but the victory did not count toward either team's Pac-10 record.

Arizona State continues its Pac-10 road trip this weekend in Los Angeles, Calif., taking on 12th-ranked USC tomorrow, March 11, at noon (PST) at Marks Tennis Stadium.
