The fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles (5-1) scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning to pick up a 9-7 win over Arizona State in front of 4,312 fans at Packard Stadium. ASU falls to 8-2 on the year, while the Seminoles improve to 5-1.

The Sun Devils were trailing 7-4 going into the bottom of the eighth inning and scored three runs to tie the game up. Junior Jeff Phelps singled to start off the inning and then stole second to set up second baseman Brooks Conrad. Conrad singled to left and moved Duncan to third. Third baseman Mike Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Phelps. Freshman Dennis Wyrick hit an infield single moving Conrad to third. After a pitching change by the Seminoles, junior Jonah Martin singled to right scoring Conrad. Jeff Duncan singled to center to score Wyrick for the final run of the inning.

Taking the loss for the Devils was reliever Jason Fingers who pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Starter Drew Friedberg went 3.0 innings allowing five runs (1 earned) on four hits with three strikeouts.

For Arizona State, Jonah Martin 3-for-5 with one RBI while Conrad turned in a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored. Senior Mitch Jones hit his sixth homerun of the season in a 1-for-5 showing at the plate.

FSU reliever Chris Whidden picked up the win for the Seminoles going 1.2 shutout innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Mike DiBlasi picked up his first save of the year, pitching a scoreless 10th inning.

Second baseman Marshall McDougall went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Karl Jernigan had a 2-for-5 performance with three RBI.
