TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second time this season, the 11th-ranked Arizona State women's tennis team (3-1, 1-1 Pac-10) shut out its opponent, this time, Tulsa (1-1, 0-0 WAC) fell 9-0 today at the Robson Player Facility.
Also for the second time this season, Arizona State did not drop a set in singles action or go to a tie breaker in doubles.
On the first singles court, sophomore All-American Allison Bradshaw made quick work of Tulsa's Monica Poveda, 6-0, 6-2. On the fourth court, freshman Mhairi Brown improved her dual record to 3-0 and overall record to 11-4 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Marjolein van Dongen. On the third court it was the battle of players from Mexico. ASU's Karin Palme, who hails from Guadalajara, defeated Tulsa's Bianca Posada, a Mexico City native, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Sun Devils improved their team dual record to 10-2 and 36-10 overall by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Bradshaw and Celena McCoury improved to 10-1 overall with an 8-5 win over Tulsa's Poveda and Jana Sedivec on the first court. ASU's freshmen tandem of Brown and Megan Yeats recorded an 8-2 victory on the second court over Jennifer DeSpain and van Dongen. Improving to 4-0 in dual action, the Sun Devil pair of Kerry Giardino and Palme defeated Aleksandra Durska and Posada also by an 8-2 score.
Up next, Arizona State will travel to southern California to take on the University of San Diego on Tuesday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m.
