Mitch Jones went 2-for-4 as the Arizona State baseball team defeated Japan's Chou University 6-1 this evening at Packard Stadium.
Seven Sun Devil pitchers combined to four hit Chou University allowing only one run while striking out 11 batters.
Winning pitcher was ASU's Eric Doble who pitched a perfect inning in relief while striking out one. Taking the loss for Chou was starter Motonori Furuoka who lasted four innings, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Junior Brian Berger went 1-for-2 with three RBI when a smacked a double down the left field line to clear the bases in the bottom of the eighth. Phil Downing went 1-for-1 with a run scored.
The Devils are next in action tomorrow in a charity game with the Anaheim Angels at Tempe Diablos Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the East Valley Boys and Girls Club.
