Mitch Jones hit two homers and collected six RBI as No. 16 Arizona State defeated 22-4 this afternoon at Packard Stadium in seven innings. ASU improves to 15-4 on the year while Southern Utah falls to 4-4.

The Devils jumped out to an early lead and never looked back scoring runs in every inning except the third. Arizona State hit five homeruns during the game including two by Jones. His 13 total bases for the game ranks third all-time in ASU history.

Picking up the win was Will Waldrip (4-0) who pitched 3.1 innings allowing two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Offensively for the Devils, Jones went 5-for-6 with four runs scored and six RBI. Mel Stocker had a 4-for-6 day at the plate with five RBI and two runs scored. Stocker was a double away from hitting for the cycle. Casey Myers went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior Jeff Duncan also had a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.

SUU starter James Anderson (0-1) took the loss for the Thunderbirds lasting 4.1 innings with 12 hits while allowing 10 runs. Centerfielder Travis Hatch went 1-for-3 with two RBI while rightfielder Amos Bright had a 3-for-4 day at the plate with one run scored. Shortstop Luke Geddes went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

ASU is next in action on Tuesday, February 29 in an exhibition game at Packard Stadium with Chou University from Japan. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
