TEMPE, Ariz. - The sixth ranked Arizona State softball team (15-1) shut out the Portland State University Vikings (3-6) today to complete the three games series with a sweep. The Devils ended the game with a mercy-rule, in the fifth inning, when they took the lead 8-0.

Arizona State started off the game strong scoring five runs off of five hits in the first inning. The Devils were led by pitcher Kirsten Voak who went 2 for 2, with one RBI. Second baseman Missy Hixon and third baseman Stacey Farnworth also hit well for the Devils both going 2 for 3, tallying two and one RBIs respectively. Seven out of seven of Arizona State's batters with hits all knocked in at least one RBI apiece.

Sophomore, All American pitcher Erica Beach, who came off a career-high seven strike-outs on Saturday, improved her record to 7-1 starting the first four innings. Beach also had two strikeouts on the day and only walked one batter.

Portland State made a run in the third inning with two hits, but a double play by Kara Brun and Hixon left two runners on base for the Vikings. The team was lead by four players each contributing one hit including Stephanie Hagen who hit a double.

The Devils head out on the road next weekend March 3-5, to compete in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia. Arizona State's next home game will be held Friday, March 24th versus UNLV at 6:00 pm at Farrington Stadium.
