TEMPE, Ariz. -- The sixth-ranked Arizona State softball team (14-1) took both games in a doubleheader against Portland State University (3-6) Saturday afternoon at Farrington Stadium. The Devils took the first game 6-4 and shutout Portland State 3-0 in the second.

During game one Arizona State tallied runs in the first, second, and fourth innings, and by the fifth inning were ahead 6-0. Sophomore first baseman Erin Wardein and junior third baseman Stacey Farnworth both went 2 for 2 on the day, each knocking in one RBI a piece. Wardein also hit her second homerun of the season during the second inning of play. Also hitting well for the Devils, shortstop Kara Brun going 2 for 4. Sophomore pitcher Kirsten Voak improved her pitching record to 8-0, including 12 strikeouts for the game.

The Vikings made a seventh inning attempt to get back in the game when after scoring one run, pinch hitter Kelly Risky knocked in three more RBIs on a homerun over the left field wall. Voak, however, ended the streak quickly striking out the next batter to end the game.

In the second game, Brun kept alive her 15 game hitting streak, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Also hitting well for the Devils was pitcher Erica Beach who went 2 for 3 with one RBI and right fielder Jamie Hlebechuk who went 1 for 2. Beach also improved her record to 6-1, while striking out seven batters and walking none.

The Devils are in action tomorrow in their third and final game at 1 p.m. against Portland State at Farrington Stadium.
