TEMPE, Ariz. - On a day of university-wide in-state rival games, the 10th-ranked Arizona State women's tennis team (7-1, 3-1 Pac-10) swept the Wildcats (6-4, 1-3 Pac-10), 9-0 today at the Robson Player Facility.
For the fourth time this season, Arizona State did not drop a set in singles action or go to a tiebreaker in doubles.
On the first singles court, sophomore All-American Allison Bradshaw made quick work of the Wildcats' Michelle Gough, 6-1, 6-1. On court two, Karin Palme dropped Lindsay Blau 6-3, 6-1, boosting her overall record to 14-5. The Sun Devils only senior, Kerry Giardino, edged Arizona's Vanessa Abel with a 6-1,6-0 victory on court three. On the fourth court, junior Faye DeVera improved her dual record to 6-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Joanna Buczkowska. On the fifth court Mhairi Brown secured a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brooke Taylor. And on court six, Megan Yeats nabbed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Denmark native Siri Fomsgaard, improving her dual record to 6-1. In doubles action, the Sun Devils swept all three matches,
Bradshaw and Celena McCoury improved to 12-1 overall with an 8-2 win over (15) Gough and Blau on the first court. ASU's freshmen tandem of Brown and Yeats recorded an 8-3 victory on the second court over the Wildcats' Abel and Buczkowska, increasing their overall record to 12-2. Improving to 6-0 in overall action, the Sun Devil pair of Giardino and Palme defeated Taylor and Fomsgaard by an 8-1 score.
Up next, Arizona State will continue its Pac-10 action when it hosts Stanford at the Robson Player Facility on Friday, March 3, 2000 at 1:30 p.m.
