Women's Golf in Fourth Place After First Day of Arizona Invitational

Tucson, Ariz. - Led by freshman Miriam Nagl (Berlin, Germany), the Arizona State women's golf team stands in fourth place after the first round of play in the Arizona Invitational being held Feb. 21-23 at the par-72, 6,123-yard Randolph Park Golf Club.

As a team, the Sun Devils shot a three-over 291 on the day, seven strokes behind tournament leader Stanford's 284. Duke stands in second place (289), while Arizona (290) and San Jose State (292) round out the top five.

Nagl finished with a two-under 70 to tie for fourth with Texas' Jessica Reese after the first day, while sophomore Lisa Meredith (Reading, England) is tied for 19th after shooting a one-over 73 on the day. Freshman Blair O'Neal (Phoenix, Ariz.) and junior Molly Cooper (Tumwater, Wash.) are tied for 26th after turning in 74s on the day. Sophomore Caroline Laurens (Montpellier, France) and junior Michaela Friberg (Rydeback, Sweden) round out the Sun Devil scorers tied for 47th (76) and tied for 90th (82), respectively.

The individual race is being led by Duke's Beth Bauer (5-under-par 67) who holds a one-shot lead over Stanford's Kim Rowton, who is in second with a 4-under-par 68. San Jose State's Jessica Krantz is in third place scoring a 3-under-par 69.

Day two of the Arizona Invitational resumes Tuesday with an 8 a.m. MST start, while the tournament will wrap up with the final round on Wednesday.
