Lefty Jon Switzer pitched a complete game as Arizona State baseball defeated 4th-ranked LSU 6-2 before a crowd of 7,853 at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. on Sunday afternoon.

For the weekend, the LSU vs. ASU matchup drew 23,363 fans - a three-game series record at Alex Box Stadium.

ASU would score two runs in the top of the second to jump out to the early lead. First baseman Jeff Phelps singled to center and moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt by the LSU pitcher, Billy Brian. Centerfielder Jeff Duncan doubled to rightfield, scoring Phelps. Designated hitter Brendan Hines singled to right field, bringing home Duncan.

The Sun Devils scored three more runs in the six and added an insurance run in the eighth.

Switzer (4-0) went the distance, allowing only one earned run on four hits while striking out five on the afternoon. It was the first complete game of Switzer's college career. The lefty held the Tiger batters to a .121 average at the plate.

Taking the loss for the Fighting Tigers was starter Billy Brian who went 8.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits while striking out four. Leadoff hitter Jeremy Witten went 2-for-5 at the plate including the only homerun of the game - a solo shot to rightfield in the seventh inning.

For the Devils, Brendan Hines went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Jeff Duncan and Jeff Phelps added two hits each. Duncan had three runs scored while Phelps scored twice.
