TEMPE, Ariz. - The ninth-ranked Arizona State women's tennis team (6-1, 2-1 Pac-10) claimed its fourth straight win with a 5-1 victory over Oregon (2-5) in Eugene.
Doubles were not played due to the outcome of the dual was already determined by five Sun Devil wins in singles action.
The only ASU loss came at the No. 1 slot, where 14th-ranked Allison Bradshaw was upset in the sets by the Ducks' Alina Wygonowska, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Courts two and three also were extended into the third set, but ASU came out victories in all three.
After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, ASU's Karine Palme got into gear with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Monika Gieczys. Senior Kerry Giardino was in the same situation, dropping the first set before dominating Oregon's Janice Nyland, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Faye DeVera won easily on the fourth court only dropping one game to Sarah Colistro, 6-1, 6-0.
ASU's freshmen pair of Mhairi Brown and Megan Yeats continued to shine for Head Coach Sheila McInerney. Brown, who is a perfect 6-0 in dual play, eliminated Oregon's Jeanette Mattsson, 6-1, 6-3, while Yeats improved her dual record to 5-1 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Adeline Arnaud.
Up next, Arizona State returns home to face archrival Arizona on Saturday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m.
