No. 5 FSU Hands ASU Baseball First Loss of the Season

The 5th-ranked Florida State Seminoles handed the Arizona State Sun Devil baseball team its first loss of the season with a 11-10 win Friday night at Packard Stadium in front of 3,867 fans. ASU falls to 7-1 while the Seminoles improve to 4-0.

Florida State posted nine runs in the eighth and ninth innings to take the lead, scoring four in the eighth and five in the ninth.

Reliever Matt Lynch picked up the win for the Seminoles, going 1 inning, allowing one hit, two runs, walking three and striking out one. Chris Widden was credited with the save pitching a perfect ninth inning to preserve the win.

Reliever Franco Pezely took the loss for the Sun Devils pitching 0.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Starter Jon Switzer pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, one walk and six strikeouts in a no-decision.

For the Devils, first baseman Jeff Phelps went 3-for-4 with four RBI while catcher Casey Myers had a 1-for-3 effort at the plate with two RBI.

For the Seminoles, leftfielder Micheal Futrell and centerfielder Karl Jernigan went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI each.
