Arizona State reliever Luke Field pitched two shutout innings to preserve a 3-2 victory over Florida Atlantic this afternoon at Packard Stadium. The Sun Devils improve to 7-0 on the year while FAU falls to 2-2.

A run scored in the fifth inning turned out to be the winning run for the Devils. With one out, shortstop Dennis Wyrick was walked by FAU's Danny Core. Rightfielder Jonah Martin singled to right centerfield to move Wyrick to third base. With runners a first and third, junior Jeff Duncan hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield, scoring Wyrick.

The Owls outhit the Sun Devils seven to five on the afternoon but also left 12 runners on base for the game.

Winning pitcher for Arizona State was starter Jon Switzer (2-0) who pitched 5.0 innings, allowed five hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts. Junior reliever Luke Field picked up his first save of the season, going 2.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts.

Senior Mitch Jones hit his fifth homerun of the season and went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI for the Devils. Leadoff hitter Jonah Martin had a 2-for-4 effort on the afternoon.

For the Owls, starter Danny Core took the loss, pitching 7.1 innings, allowing just five hits, three runs, two earned runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.
