Washington State's Adrian Hankoff had 18 kills as the Cougars defeated Arizona State, 3-0, in Pullman, Wash. on Friday night before a crowd of 1,092. Game scores were 15-13, 15-13, 15-9.
The Devils held leads in both the first and second games but could not maintain the advantage.
The Devils were led by middle blocker Jamie Peck who tallied a team-high 13 kills. Junior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge added 10 kills on the night while sophomore outside hitter Jami Coughlin had eight kills. Defensive specialist Terese Robb notched a career-high four service aces for the match. Coughlin had a team-high 14 digs followed by Burbridge's 10 digs. Freshman Julia Leddy led the squad with four blocks on the evening.
For the Cougars, three players ended the match in double figures for kills including Hankoff (18), Joy Sperry (11) and LaToya Harris (11). Sperry led all players with 17 digs on the night. Hankoff added 12 digs while Harris and Kortney Jamtaas had 11 each.
Washington State outhit the Devils .238 to .126 for the match. ASU's .126 hitting percentage was its lowest since UCLA when they hit .105.
Arizona State is next in action tomorrow night in Seattle, Wash. when they take on Washington at 7 p.m. in continued conference action.
