FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Arizona State Sun Devil volleyball team fell to Northern Arizona, 3-2, tonight before a crowd of 817. Game scores were 14-16, 15-6, 6-15, 15-4, 9-15.
Arizona State ends the 1999 regular season with a 14-12 overall record, 10-8 in conference action.
For the Devils, senior middle blocker Laura Hibsman pounded out a team-high 18 kills on the night. Senior middle blocker Jamie Peck added 14 kills while junior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge had 12. Defensively, four Devils ended the night in double figures in digs: Jami Coughlin (13), Ashley Hubbard (13), Burbridge (12) and Becky Sidoti (10). Both Burbridge and Coughlin notched two service aces a piece.
The Lumberjacks were led by middle blockers Maggie Barrera (18 kills) and outside hitter Amber Thom (19 kills). Chelsea Robb and Tiwi Bonds added 15 and 14 kills respectively. Thom notched a match-high four service aces on the night.
It was the first Northern Arizona victory over the Sun Devils since 1988. NAU is now 19-2 at home vs. non-conference opponents.
