WESTWOOD, Calif. - The No. 8 UCLA women's soccer team secured its seventh shutout of the season, cruising past Arizona State 5-0 tonight at UCLA's Spaulding Field.
Sophomore forward Staci Duncan notched the game-winner off an assist from midfielder Venus James. With 10:28 on the clock, Duncan blasted in a shot from eight yards out that went down the center of the net. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Emblem pulled UCLA ahead 2-0 in the 37th minute when she rebounded her shot off goalkeeper Erin Reinke's save.
In a shot almost identical to her previous one, Emblem went on to register her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute. James registered a goal of her own when she headed in midfielder Bethany Bogart's corner kick with 62:14 on the clock. Freshman forward Jessica Winton rounded off the scoring for the Bruins when she received a pass from James and knocked the ball past Reinke.
The Bruin defense allowed only two shots the entire game and UCLA goalkeepers CiCi Peterson and Lindsay Culp did not need to make a single save. Reinke pulled down eight of 21 Bruin shots.
